President and Hudson Valley Representative
Vernon Bonse is the current ESAD President. He has been on the board for 10 years. His ongoing goal is to always advocate for the Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing and Hearing Loss community. He believes that the Deaf can do anything they can imagine, and achieve it in life. He has a Masters in Deafness Rehabilitation, from New York University and currently serves as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Coordinator at Independent Living, Inc. He also has been teaching ASL and Deaf Culture since 1987 at several colleges. He is happily married to Aurelina, and loves to hunt, fish and being outdoors.
I’m Michael Cross, the Vice President of ESAD and the deaf resident of New York State. I believe instead of complaining about my rights and the quality of my life, I join ESAD to take the action for the betterment of my life as well as for the deaf and hard of hearing people in NYS.
Hails from St. Mary’s school for the deaf, acquired business diploma from NTID/RIT and associate degree in Visual Communication & Business Administration from American InterContinental University. An avid bowler who continues to play in leagues. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her 9 grandchildren.
Secretary & Capital Regional Representative
Grew up in Rockland County-Spring Valley, NY. Mainstreamed through a public school then eventally was transferred to NYSD-Fanwood during her sophomore year. Earned her Bachelors in Social Work at RIT. She is currently working at SUNY Adirondack Community College as a professor- teaching ASL. She has a deep love for travel with her family. October 2021 will be the beginning of my 7th year with ESAD continuing her passion to support individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard-of-Hearing, those with Hearing Loss throughout the community.

Niagara Region Representative
David Wantuck, A Buffalo native, comes from a large Deaf family background and prides himself as a Deaf person. He graduated from Medaille College with two degrees. Criminal Justice and Sports Management. He has a long history of advocating for the Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing community. He strives for better and equal access to communication everyday. He currently works at Deaf Access Services as the Community Engagement Specialist and is on several boards- Erie County Disability Core Advisory, Amherst Disability Core Advisory.
North Country Regional Representative
Known as “Beaver Hunter” when I removed a beaver from the child-care faculty. Retired after working 13 years as Director of maintenance for the Plattsburgh YMCA. Married to my lovely wife of 38 years, Diana. We have 3 furry kids in our family. We all enjoy camping, riding the Harley’s and helping the community. Enjoys tinkering on technological stuff and among of things.
Southwest Association of the Deaf (SWAD) Representative
Retiree who hailed from St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY with Graphic Arts degree from Minnesota Technical Vocational Institute. Enjoys babysitting the grandchildren while teaching them ASL. He’s well-known for sharing funny stories along with jokes in ASL.
